My name is Ina, just a normal third year PhD student (fingers crossed, may I get that Dr title by 2026) in Monash University, Melbourne. My thesis talks about the universalist approach to creative city development by using Indonesia as my empirical foundation. I am still listed as an active lecturer in Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Indonesia, since 2016. I was graduated from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, but also tasted a few incredible moment as Erasmus student in University of Limerick, Ireland.
My research creeps around the area of communities, politics, and power dynamics. The surroundings have affected me on how I should see the world. Thus, I learn a lot from others. I have a concern about how young people disengage with environmental issues, government’s ineffective policies on influencers, people’s obsession to smoking behaviour (thanks to my husband), or community’s lack of power when facing authority.
I was part of a few project grants with some incredible teams in PAGE Legacy Grant from Arthur W. Page Society USA (2021), Purpose Foundation USA (2021), United Nations Development Programme (2020), and Newton Fund Institutional Links – British Council (2016-2018).
I am here with the support of the universe through various scholarships I have received since my bachelor’s degree from the Tanoto Foundation. Later, Tanoto also funded my master’s degree and another scholarship from Erasmus+ to learn and experience a different life in Ireland. This was my first time living abroad! Now, I received full funding from Monash University for my PhD.
Outside my daily academia world, I also active as Executive Council/Membership Director of South East Asia Media Studies Association since 2022
Previously, before the #academialyfe #phdlyfe, I worked as a normal career woman in Unilever (where I ate too many ice creams) and Sari Husada (Danone) (where I sold milk!) in Jakarta, Indonesia. I was torn between hate and love for this bustling city. I couldn’t imagine that I would become myself today, reading books with thick eye glasses instead of going to parties.
